Dicebox

Jenn Manley Lee's serialized sf story about "two migrant factory workers in space" features sharp characterization and an oblique storytelling style, slowly filling in the details about heroines Griffin and Molly, and the universe they call home. Catch Jenn's blogs here and here.

Electric Sheep

Patrick Farley creates state-of-the-art online comics in a futuristic vein. His serial "The Spiders", subtitled "An Alternate History of the Afghan War", is one of the better sf stories I've seen in graphic form, and features some ingenious use of the web comic medium.

Narbonic

Shaenon Garrity's comic about a mad scientist (who is herself a clone of an even madder scientist), her gun-happy but cute henchwoman, their collective victim (the lab's IT/engineering guy), and a talking superintelligent gerbil. Shaenon spins a wild yarn.

RadSechrist.com

Rad Sechrist is one of the contributors to the Flight anthology. His cartoon work features humans and anthropomorphic animals who live in ramshackle, steampunk-esque cities and ride on trains that seem to be held together by a few rivets and good faith. A talent to watch.

Scary-Go-Round

John Allison's elegantly designed comedic supernatural adventure, which crosses easily between "spooky" whimsy and genuine creepiness. Lately it's been more whimsical.

Smithson

"Smithson" is the relaunch of Shaenon Garrity's series "More Fun", originally drawn by Robert Stevenson and Roger Langridge. I took over art duties on the strip in November 2005.

"Smithson" has it all: a superhero in a miner's helmet and tied-on cape; an a capella group that dabbles in black magic; a dorm RA who synthesizes human skin on fish; the Nonconformist Chair Movement, a shadowy, militant re-decorating group; a handsome DJ that puts Pump Up the Volume-era Christian Slater to shame, and more. Shaenon couldn't tell a boring story if she wanted to. Let's hope I can hold up the art end!
